On Friday, Kamal Haasan’s Vikram topped the box office while Samrat Prithviraj and Major were left behind in the running. In fact, Akshay Mukar’s Samrat Prithviraj opening was lower than his last film, “Bachchan Pandey”.

Akshay Kumar’s box office reputation has been further damaged with his new movie ‘Samrat Prithviraj’. The film‘s first-day collection was lower than its last release, “Bachchan Pandey”, which hit theaters in March this year. The film grossed far less than the makers expected and considering the film’s budget, its opening day was deemed quite disappointing.

On the other hand, Kamal Haasan’s Vikram hit hard with the film’s opening collection. Originally made in Tamil, it has been published all over India in several languages including Hindi. Similarly, Adivi Sesh-starring ‘Major’, a Telugu language film, was also released in Hindi. However, despite the huge audience response to the film, “Major” had the lowest collection on its first day of release.

Samrat Prithviraj: Akshay Kumar, Manushi Chhillar, Sonu Sood, Sanjay Dutt, Ashutosh Rana and Manav Vij-star ‘Samrat Prithviraj’, released under the banner of Yash Raj Films, was made on a budget of around Rs 300 crore. The film was released on around five thousand screens in India alone. It was speculated that the film would take an opening of at least Rs 14 to Rs 15 crores on its first day, but the film’s opening day earnings are stuck at Rs 10.50 crores, according to initial figures. Akshay Kumar’s film ‘Bachchan Pandey’, released in March this year, grossed Rs 13.25 crore, earning more than Samrat Prithviraj’s collection; “Bachchan Pandey” flopped at the box office. Apart from Hindi, the film “Samrat Prithviraj” was also released in Tamil and Telugu.

Vikram: Director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s film ‘Vikram’ earned the biggest collection among the three films released on Friday. Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi and Fahad Faasil starring this film had previously outperformed the other two films in advance and now the initial numbers show that the film performed well on day one. ‘Vikram’ netted around Rs 34 crore at the box office on its first day of release, including all languages. Total ticket sales on the first day of the film were around Rs 40 crore.

Major: Producer Mahesh Babu’s Telugu film ‘Major’, starring Adivi Sesh in the lead role, was also released in theaters on Friday. Adivi Shesh’s standout got huge publicity across the country and her preview screening also got a lot of love from the audience. But, the opening day of the film was not even able to cross the Rs 10 crore mark. According to the opening day figures, Shashi Kiran Tikka’s film made a net collection of just seven crores the first day. Apart from Telugu, the film was also released in Hindi and Malayalam.

Samrat Prithviraj Vs Vikram Vs Major: Of the three films ‘Samrat Prithviraj’, ‘Vikram’ and ‘Major’ released on Friday, ‘Vikram’ won the race on the first day. Meanwhile, watching the opening of Akshay Kumar’s film “Samrat Prithviraj”, his goal of earning Rs 50 crore in the first weekend now seems far-fetched. It is the third such film from Yash Raj Films, released after the pandemic, which opened far below expectations at the box office. Before that, two YRF films, ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’ and ‘Jayeshbhai Jordaar’ flopped one after another at the box office.
