Valimai box office collection day 1: ‘Career best for Ajith Kumar’

Featured Ajith Valimai released in theaters on February 24 and became the first major Tamil film to hit theaters after the third wave of Covid-19. While we expected that Valimai will be a massive box office hit, early trends suggest director H Vinoth is off to an impressive start.

Business analyst Ramesh Bala took to Twitter and shared that the film opened at Rs 1.82 crore in Chennai, which is the biggest collection for a film on its opening day in the age of pandemic. “#Valimai takes the biggest day 1 opening for actor #AjithKumar in #Chennai City.. ₹1.82 Crs gross. .

Business analyst Kaushik LM also shared similar numbers on his Twitter and wrote, “#AjithKumar’s #Valimai Day1 Chennai City gross is a whopping 1.82 CR👌🔥By far the new best career opener city for #AK and also the best city post-pandemic opening day Normal Thursday release from work Majority city theaters had no spl mrng shows So 2 CR+ excluded.

According to a report from BoxOfficeIndia, Valimai “will be the first film from Tamil Nadu to cross the net 25 crore mark on opening day and this is a great achievement for the industry.”

Bala previously tweeted that Valimai had “started off on the right foot in #USA”. In another tweet, he mentioned that he’s “heading for #AK’s biggest day 1 opener in #Singapore”. More concrete figures for the film are awaited.

Manoj Kumar of wrote in his review of the film: “Vinoth goes old fashioned when it comes to setting up the film; it seems that he really wanted to create an urban myth. It begins the story with some promise even if it lacks originality in terms of direction, dialogue, or creating hype for the hero’s arrival. Once the initial hubbub subsides, it becomes painfully clear that the film has very little to offer.
