US Mission in Pakistan Announces US Film Showcase

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The U.S. Mission in Pakistan announced the American Film Showcase (AFS) this year, which will pair two American filmmakers with Pakistani filmmakers to develop new production skills.

The program runs from June 17 to June 27, 2022.

This year’s online film festival will focus on the theme of equality and feature screenings of seven American documentaries, including: Cinemability; The Dominican Dream; Chess Girls; Hamtramck-USA; Mrs March; Search on: between the worlds and share.

In addition to the film festival, US film envoys Elizabeth Polans and Lisa Srivsatava will lead two virtual documentary film workshops for Pakistani students, filmmakers and industry experts.

During the workshops, the emissaries will share their expertise in the art of digital storytelling on social justice and equality.

They will focus on common challenges faced by filmmakers from both countries and educate participants on the trades of marketing, distribution, broadcasting and participation in international film festivals.

AFS is the US government’s premier film diplomacy program and is produced by the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California.

AFS is designed to spark dialogue and empower local communities to tell their stories. It also serves as a medium to expand the reach of Pakistani films to wider domestic and international audiences.

AFS in Pakistan is part of the U.S. Embassy’s ongoing efforts to unite Pakistani and American filmmakers and strengthen the voices of the next generation of filmmakers.
