TikToker shares apparent secret about movie popcorn

A TikToker recently shared an apparent secret about movie theater popcorn and its video is going viral.

In the short clip, user @eagerem says people can just walk into a movie theater and buy popcorn, even if they don’t plan on seeing a movie. She records the video from her car, where two large boxes of popcorn are visible.

Of course, this isn’t really a huge movie hack. Over the years, people have repeatedly asked on Reddit, Quora, and other question-based websites if this is possible.

Not all movie theaters allow it either. In the comments to @eagerem’s video, several users pointed out that their local theaters check tickets before the concession stand. Since the publication of her video, she has been viewed over 1.5 million times.

And the “hack” seems to have surprised at least some of the viewers of the video.

“Something that looks illegal, but isn’t,” commented one user.

“It’s a perfect example of spontaneous impulsive things people can do that are completely harmless,” said another. “It’s a good idea.”

Others, however, were more cynical about paying extra for popcorn at the movies. Especially since store-bought popcorn is on average much cheaper.

“Movie popcorn is literally the most expensive thing in the world,” said one user.

“It’s $ 40 in popcorn,” wrote another.
