This 2005 blockbuster starring Vishal was rejected by Vijay without hearing the full script

Vijay, one of the biggest stars in the Tamil film industry, was unable to recreate the magic of his previous films with his most recent Beast as the film failed to live up to the buzz and expectations. The film received mixed reviews from audiences and critics.

However, before that, Vijay’s Master received a thunderous response. But do you know that the 2005 hit movie Sandakozhi which starred Vishal and Meera Jasmine in the lead roles could also have been added to Vijay’s list of hit movies? Yes, the offer for the lead role in the film was first made to Vijay before he rejected it.

Sandakozhi director N Linguswamy had in an interview confirmed the same and said that Vijay rejected the film just after listening to half of the script narration. “After I finished describing the first half of the story, Vijay stopped me,” Linguswamy said. “When I asked why, he said the second half of the film focused heavily on the role of the father, played by actor Rajkiran.”

Vijay reportedly realized that the father had more screen time than the hero in the second half and as a result he felt he had very little to do as the protagonist. “When I insisted on finishing my whole story, Vijay confidently refused and told me to move on to the next story,” Linguswamy said. “He didn’t listen to the second half at all, so I left,” he said.

The film was then made with Vishal in the lead and became a blockbuster, gaining cult status as well. The director then met Vijay at a party and the actor shook his hand, congratulating him on his success. When Linguswamy expressed his disappointment that Vijay was not in the film, Vijay said that Vishal was the absolute right choice for the role.

Vijay is currently filming his next, directed by Vamshi Paidipally and tentatively titled Thalapathy 66. Rashmika Mandanna plays the female lead in the film, which also stars actors Shaam and Sarathkumar.
