After three announcements regarding its design, specifications and camera features, Oneplus finally launched the OnePlus 10 Pro, that is, at least in one country. The first half of the new year is always an exciting time in the tech space. That’s when Samsung announces its latest Galaxy S, OnePlus launches its latest flagship handset, and Apple typically unveils a new Mac or iPad.
Last year, OnePlus’ flagship lineup took shape as the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro. The two phones were launched side-by-side with many of the same specs including the same processor, same battery capacity, same wired charging speeds, and more. Of the two devices, the more expensive OnePlus 9 Pro established itself as the best overall handset. Thanks to a top-notch display, strong camera performance, and a fairly reasonable price tag, it was a worthy competitor to the best handsets from Samsung and Apple.
About a week ago OnePlus first announced the OnePlus 10 Pro like its latest flagship device – with a first look at its design. The days that followed saw OnePlus continue to broadcast information on the phone. Its specifications were confirmed on January 4, as were its new camera capabilities on January 6. Now, January 10, OnePlus is officially launched the OnePlus 10 Pro to customers in China. Sales of the phone are expected to begin on January 13 with two color variants, including Volcanic Black and Forest Emerald.
The OnePlus 10 Pro is heading to the US – at some point
Interestingly enough, OnePlus does not comment on the availability of the OnePlus 10 Pro in other countries. All it says at the moment is that the 10 Pro “Will be launched globally later in 2022. It’s safe to assume that this includes the United States, but there is currently no mention of the 2022 release date or its cost. It could be a few weeks, a month, or not until April – the same month, the OnePlus 9 series hit the United States. Last year.
Why is OnePlus releasing the OnePlus 10 Pro like this? Who knows. This could be related to the current chip shortage and only having enough components for a market launch right now. It may also be part of OnePlus’ long marketing for the phone. OnePlus released 10 Pro news through four press releases in the past week. If it can have a launch now and another later in the year, that could be a way to build more hype for the device.
Whatever the answer, there is reason to be excited when this global launch date finally arrives. Based on what OnePlus has shown us at this point, The OnePlus 10 Pro looks like a pretty killer device. It has a refreshing design, Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, and OnePlus boasts big camera improvements over the 9 Pro. If all this lives up to the marketing buzz, the Oneplus 10 Pro may well be worth this confusing ad cycle.
