The non-fiction book is said to combine “film criticism, film theory, a feat of reporting and a wonderful personal story”.
Quentin Tarantino has yet to announce his plans to direct his latest film, but moviegoers can expect new work from the “Pulp Fiction” director this fall. Tarantino is writing a new book on film history called “Cinema Speculation,” and his publisher HarperCollins has announced it will be ready for release on October 25.
The official synopsis of HarperCollins’ book reads: “IAs well as being one of the most celebrated contemporary filmmakers, Quentin Tarantino is perhaps the world’s most happily infectious film buff. For years, he has touted in interviews his eventual turn to writing books about movies. Now, with “Cinema Speculation”, the time has come and the results are everything its passionate fans – and all movie buffs – could have hoped for. Organized around key American films of the 1970s, all of which he first saw as a young moviegoer at the time, this book is as intellectually rigorous and insightful as it is joyful and entertaining. Part film review, part film theory, part reporting feat, and part marvelous personal story, it’s all written in a singular voice immediately recognizable as QT and with the rare perspective on cinema possible only from one of the greatest practitioners of the art form. ”

Previously, Tarantino wrote that he had planned a separate novel about a World War II veteran who returns home and finds refuge in international cinema after no longer responding to Hollywood, given all he’s been through. “I have this character who was in World War II and he saw a lot of bloodshed there,” Tarantino said of his other upcoming novel. “And now he’s back home, and it’s like the 50s, and he doesn’t respond to movies anymore. He finds them juvenile after everything he’s been through. For him, Hollywood movies are And then, all of a sudden, he starts hearing about these foreign films of Kurosawa and Fellini.
But fans discovered that this book was actually the novel “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” where that returning veteran character who finds a home in the arthouse is none other than Cliff Booth, played by Brad Pitt in the film. The role earned Pitt an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
“Cinema Speculation” hits bookstores on October 25, 2022.
