Dhanush’s psychological thriller “Naane Varuvean” opened to rave reviews, the film is praised for its direction, unique concept, background music and the actor’s outstanding performance in the dual role.
Fans were very disappointed with the directors for not promoting the film enough. Now, it looks like business for the film will grow due to positive word of mouth from audiences given the early smash reviews.

Due to the lack of promotions, the Dhanush movie did not hold up well enough in bookings, it sold over 1.37L tickets worth Rs 2.35 Cr, for the opening day. The domestic market leads by selling over 1.31 L of tickets worth Rs 2.27 Cr, followed by the Telugu version which sold over 5,000 tickets worth Rs 8 L.
Naane Varuvean is not in competition with the PS1
Naane Varuvean marks the 5th collaboration between Dhanush and his brother Selvaraghavan. Recently, Dhanush star producer Kalaipuli S Thanu during an interview with Behindwoods TV confirmed that Naane Varuven is not in competition with the highly anticipated Ponniyin Selvan.
He said the team decided to release the film on September 29 because they didn’t want to miss the Navaratri season. However, Mani Ratnam’s highly anticipated film is coming to theaters starting tomorrow.

Naane Varuvean is said to have occupied around 700 theaters in TN and from tomorrow the screens will be reduced by 250-300 screens due to the arrival of PS-1.

So, so far there are only 4 Tamil films that have managed to get a double digit start, Dhanush’s latest release, Thiruchitrambalam, opened with just below the 10 crore mark. Now, Dhanush’s film is expected to see an upward trend in occupancy during the midday, evening and night shows as positive reviews pour in for the film.
