GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) – Hundreds of people attended the first day of Cinema By The Shore, which is back at Jones Park in Gulfport.
The summer event kicked off its first day with tons of food trucks, music, and games. Families gathered around the park with blankets and chairs waiting for the first movie of the season, “Space Jam: A New Legacy” to begin.
Paris Payne, 11, went with her mother and sister for the second time. Payne said she really enjoys spending time with her family.
“It’s good to be outside with different kinds of people and a lot of the stuff is free. You can just relax and have a good time,” Payne said.
Prior to the start of the film, a Lighted Bicycle Festival roamed the streets of Gulfport. According to our information, 213 people attended the event organized by RPM Pizza CEO Glenn Mueller.
Lighted bikes lit up the sidewalks as bikers passed at least a mile from the park. National participants ranged in age from 4 to 92 years old.
Richard Olson decided to join the party after being part of the Gulf Coast Bicycle Club. He said they were trying to break the state record for most bikers in a lighted parade.
“It’s a nice cool day. The sun is not bad, and the wind is calm to be on the beach here. I think it’s a great day and people should come out and help us break the record,” Olson said.
Cinema By The Shore will continue once a month through August.
