Celine Dion biopic 'Aline' acquired by Roadside Attractions and Samuel Goldwyn Films for distribution rights in the United States

Variety exclusively learned that Roadside Attractions and Samuel Goldwyn Films have acquired the distribution rights in the United States for A line, a biopic loosely based on French Canadian Celine Dion. Criticism acclaimed A line presented out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival.

Lemercier, renowned French actor and comedian, directed, co-wrote with Brigitte But, and appears in the film as Aline Dieu, a singing prodigy who grew up in 1960s Quebec surrounded by her family very united 13 brothers and sisters.

The film follows A line (who is believed to be Celine Dion) from her upbringing to her unexpected emergence as a global sensation, demonstrating her remarkable metamorphosis. The film focuses on Aline’s relationship with her producer and mentor, who would later become her husband while portraying her juggling a demanding job and parenthood.

Sylvain Marcel, Danielle Fichaud, Roc Lafortune, Antoine Vézina, Pascale Desrochers and Jean-Nol Brouté co-starred with Lemercier. Victoria Sio, the singing voice of Aline, was chosen from around fifty singers by Lemercier and the producers.

“Valerie’s tour de force as an emerging global songwriter caused a sensation at Cannes this year, and we believe American audiences will be just as excited to discover this one-of-a-kind artist in theaters early on. 2022, ”Roadside and Goldwyn said in a joint statement.

A line is slated to hit US theaters in early 2022.
