After The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Bucky certainly deserves another MCU comeback – but that shouldn’t happen in Captain America 4.
After The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) is definitely expected to return in the MCU – but that shouldn’t happen in Captain america 4. By sharing the focus between Bucky and Falcon (Anthony Mackie), The Falcon and the Winter Soldier became the first MCU project to shine the spotlight on Steve Rogers’ original sidekick in the comics. And while he doesn’t have any confirmed roles coming up, there’s a good chance the MCU has some secret plans for his character’s future.
Perhaps the most obvious place to put Bucky next would be Captain america 4. After all, this is Sebastian Stan’s destination The Falcon and the Winter Soldier co-starring. In the film, Mackie will reprise his role as Sam Wilson, who has just taken over from Captain America. As it stands, it’s unclear who will join him on his first solo outing as the Star-Spangled Avenger, but it would make sense for this to continue the MCU stories of characters like Sharon Carter (Emily Van Camp). , American agent (Wyatt Russell) and possibly Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl). Winter Soldier could also be included, especially since his dynamic with Falcon worked so well in their Disney + series.
The idea of ââteaming up between Falcon and Bucky is promising, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best case scenario for either character. It is important to note that since he would not receive the same treatment as Sam in Captain America 4, he would take precedence over Sam both in the story and in the majority of the action scenes. For this reason, it would be better for Stan – who has expressed interest in returning – to play Bucky in his own story. Black Panther post-credits scene and Avengers: Infinity War started something really interesting when he handed her the “White Wolf“, but the MCU has yet to make the most of this development.
Bucky’s best MCU future might involve him finally becoming the White Wolf and moving up from the Winter Soldier title. In Marvel Comics, White Wolf was a superhero codename that belonged to a white man who had fought on behalf of Wakanda and wore a white suit. Through the guest appearances of the Dora Milaje in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, The MCU continued to recognize Bucky’s White Wolf connections but still hasn’t fully transformed him into a character. There wasn’t much room for that in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, that doesn’t seem like a path the MCU would take either. Captain America 4.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Exploring what makes Bucky tick and how he deals with his past has proven he’s an MCU character worthy of his own arcs. Similar to what’s done with Sam, Marvel could take the next step with Bucky through a White Wolf Disney + show, or potentially the rumor Love at first sight movie. Another option would be the untitled Ryan Coogler Black Panther spinoff show, which will take place in Wakanda. Either way, Marvel has some enticing options available to them for Bucky’s future that don’t have to involve Captain america 4.
