The poster for Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s upcoming film, Bhoot the police posted today and has been the subject of criticism and backlash on social media. Sharing the poster on her Instagram profile, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan wrote: “Don’t fear the paranormal and feel ‘Saif’ with VIBHOOTI.”
The release of the poster for the film directed by Pawan Kirpalani sparked a certain section of Twitter which led to a series of comments to boycott Saif Ali Khan. The poster features the character of Saif Ali Khan carrying a scepter with Hindu sculptures, sadhus and skulls in the background. Internet users were quick to spot the Hindu sadhus on the poster and ask the question: “Why are there Hindu saints in the background?”
One user also pointed out that “the hope #SaifAliKhan was not learned from Tandav, âreferring to the same string of protests that actor Tandav’s web series faced in January 2021.
Some are also of the opinion that this is an attempt to hurt Hindu beliefs and feelings and to defame Hindutva.
Also starring Yami Gautam, Arjun Kapoor and Jacqueline Fernandez, the horror comedy is slated for release on Disney + Hotsar VIP. Produced by Ramesh Taurani and Akshai Puri, Bhoot the police is one of the last Bollywood films to skip a theatrical release in favor of a digital first.
