Think your work can’t inspire a blockbuster movie for the ages? Think again.
Or at least that’s the feeling of David Meltzer, sought-after entrepreneur and speaker, whom we caught up with at Propelify to talk about his own motivation, something entrepreneurs don’t talk about a lot (spirituality), and his marketing pulse, including the latest NFT trends.
Grit Daily: For the uninitiated, what is your relation to the real story behind the movie, Jerry Maguire?
David Meltzer: While I was running the Leigh Steinberg Sports and Entertainment agency, we were approached by the film production team because they wanted to use our agency as a model for the making of the film. It was a fantastic experience working with their team and their cast to create the image of what a real sports agency looked like back then. While I don’t have a direct relationship to the real story behind the film, it’s hard not to love a modern love story combined with the incredible sports and entertainment market.
Grit Daily: If there’s one thing you want people to take away from your âspeaker circuitâ lectures, including Propelify, Web Summit, and others, what would it be?
David Meltzer: Be kind to your future self and do good deeds.
Grit Daily: In trading scenarios, you describe a “frequency”. What is that?
David Meltzer: In negotiation, the frequency you carry is your integrity. Your integrity is your real self and the real value you can convey to yourself and to others.
Grit Daily: Curious minds want to know: who are your own mentors?
David Meltzer: I believe having at least 3 mentors at a time is essential for personal development and success. I identify my mentors by identifying the people who are currently in the shoes of those I want to be in, and I simply ask for their help and mentorship. Asking for help is one of the hardest things to do and is the # 1 tip for my young self. Some of my mentors today are Jack Canfield, Tilman Fertitta, and Gary Vaynerchuk.
Grit Daily: Spiritualism is not often covered by entrepreneurs; however you are discussing it. What should every entrepreneur know?
David Meltzer: Spirituality is something that is now part of my everyday life. I believe that being connected to your true self and to the bountiful source of light, love and lessons the world has to offer is one of the common denominators of successful entrepreneurs. When it comes to spirituality, I recommend every entrepreneur find what works for them. Whether it’s meditating daily or even tracing calligraphy like I do, find what works for you and stay committed to the practice of continually investing in your personal spirituality.
Grit Daily: Among the technologies 2021 is known for, NFTs have captured the world’s attention. Which projects do you see with the most endurance?
David Meltzer: Understanding the rapidly growing NFT space is something I’ve turned to a lot of my mentors for. I believe this market will continue to grow and expand as it continues to gain more celebrities, athletes and artists as ambassadors. I like picks and shovels, like Creatify, and NFT authentication that is often overlooked.
