A drunken man identified as Ganpat Bakal has created an internet storm after climbing to the top of a 100ft mobile phone tower in Jalna district, Maharashtra. The man was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and was trying to get his wife to go home to her parents, a police official said. The incident happened in Dabhadi village in Badnapur tehsil on Wednesday and Ganpat Bakal fell only after villagers, firefighters and police personnel said they would try to resolve the domestic dispute , he added.
“He was under the influence of alcohol. He came down from the tower after four hours. Bakal was arrested and later released,” he said.
There is no information if his wife came back to him. It appears the man was inspired by actor Dharmendra, as eyewitnesses said the scene reminded them of Dharmendra’s character Veeru’s legendary act of drunkenness in the 1970s blockbuster Sholay. the film, Dharmendra’s character Veeru climbed the water tank wanting his lover’s family to give consent to their marriage, Ganpat Bakal demanded that his marriage be given another chance.

Video of the incident is being shared on the internet, leaving netizens laughing out loud. One user wrote: “While he was there he could have tweaked the instruments to improve the VI network.” Some users also called it “dumbness”, others were sympathetic towards it.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred in India. A similar incident occurred in 2017, when a man climbed the tower to seek a divorce from his wife.
